UVGI - Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation
UVGI requires a UV (ultra violet) mercury bulb with a minimum radiant energy output of 254 nm of light. This disinfection process is applied to surfaces as well as supplemental air cleaning used in reducing the transmission of airborne bacteria and viruses. UVGI is used in air handling units and ductwork to limit or prevent vegetative bacteria and fungi and viruses and also in “scrubbing” the conditioned air flow to remove airborne contamination. Other applications are upper air room disinfection units and HEPA filtered air purification devices.
UVC PHI - (Photohydroionization)
This extended air purification process within the ductwork is enhanced by using a quad metallic compound target around the UV-C bulb which provides an advance oxidation process producing hydro-peroxides, super oxide ions, ozonide ions and hydroperoxides called the Advanced Oxidation System (AOP) into the air stream which reduces airborne microorganisms. Gases, VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) and odors are also reduced significantly. The output level pf hydroperoxides is between .01 to .03 PPM below the Government safety guidelines of 1.0 ppm.
UVC-PCO (Photo Catalytic Oxidation)
A similar level of AOP is accomplished by the use of a metal oxide semiconductor, usually titanium dioxide or cobalt oxide around the UV-C bulb. This technology has been created by RGF and Sanuvox. RGF has produced a REME HALO unit that is easily inserted into the forced air ductwork. It oxidizes through the use of Oxygen also. Similar results of germicidal and viral reduction have been reported.
UV-C CUVC (Crystalline- UVC) Air Disinfection Device
This patented technology is unique to Aerobiotix, the country’s leader in reducing SSI (surgical site infection) in an OR setting. The design of this system is to maximize UVC dosage and reduction efficiency while maintaining high air flow volumes. The C-UVC device utilizes a hybrid of biological and physical systems utilizing a reaction chamber filled with clear cylindrical crystals. These crystals function as a solid media filter, slowing and trapping organisms as they pass via the air stream. The unique feature is that these crystals can be penetrated by UV-C irradiation and reduction occurs within one air pass. This has had the effect of increasing the reduction efficiency over prior UV technologies. The addition of HEPA air filtration and PCO using zirconium oxide as a catalyst, eliminates VOC’s, elevated RPC ( respirable particle counts) and odors as well. This has resulted in the continual production and maintenance of the highest level of air quality to date, validated to reduce many viruses, spores and bacteria. Different units are designed to disinfect targeted indoor air spaces as well as HVAC systems.
